Creator of ChatGPT grants the first Indonesian "Golden Visa"

In a move to attract foreign investment, Indonesia has granted its first "Golden Visa" to Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, just a week after introducing the program.

Silmy Karim, Indonesia's director general of immigration, explained that this visa is given to individuals with international renown who can bring benefits to the country. "With this golden visa, the hope is that Altman can contribute towards the development and use of AI in Indonesia," Karim said.

Altman's Golden Visa will be valid for a period of 10 years. This special visa will provide the American entrepreneur with various privileges, including priority screening at airports throughout Indonesia's vast archipelago, longer periods of stay, and simplified entry and exit procedures.

Altman, who is known for co-founding OpenAI alongside Elon Musk and for creating ChatGPT, visited Indonesia earlier this year as part of an extensive tour that included major cities in Asia such as Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul, and Singapore.

ChatGPT, the AI chatbot famous for its humanlike responses, gained 100 million users just two months after its launch.
Altman and other tech leaders recently emphasized in an open letter that AI poses a risk to human existence comparable to nuclear war and called for global efforts to mitigate these risks.
